Using computer during transfers

I'm trying the drag and drop method. Will using other apps or going online slow down the transfer process? I'm afraid to even let a screen saver kick in on either computer

    No, you can freely use either computer during a transfer or sync, it is not nearly that sensitive. It is also not using your wireless or network, but the USB port to transfer data.
