Virus transfer

I am about to transfer files from an old XP laptop to a new Windows 7 laptop. I know my XP laptop has the "iexplore.exe" virus that I have not been able to remove after several attempts. When I move files from the XP laptop to my new laptop will I also be infecting my new laptop with the iexplore.exe virus? -Dick
